This New Year I decided to focus on slow fashion and becoming a more conscious consumer. I’ve come to realize that I was having writers block with my last blog (and instagram) because fast fashion was starting to really bum me out. It was also draining my wallet…

When I had started blogging in 2013 the fashion seasons were simple: fall, spring, and resort. I enjoyed the slower process of blogging back then. I would see concept art for collections, plan my travel outfits, shoot and post. It was easy to keep up with, inspirational, and romantic. But now, thanks to the rise of using social media/influencers as marketing tactics, fast fashion has gone full speed ahead.

We now have the following seasons:

  • pre fall
  • fall
  • holiday
  • winter
  • resort
  • festival
  • spring
  • summer
  • high summer

All so we can constantly have new clothes in our closets and new outfits on our feeds.

Fast Fashion is difficult to keep up with. For financial reasons, many turn to fast fashion mecca’s like H&M, Forever 21, and Zara (I’m guilty of it myself!). But are shoppers really saving money buying new clothes constantly? Especially when those clothes fall apart after one or two wears?

In 2017, when my writers block was starting, I watched the documentary “True Cost” by Andrew Morgan. I was horrified at the system I had found myself caught up in. I had no doubt after watching that fast fashion is destroying our planet, harming fellow humans, and leaving us broke.

That’s why I’ve decided to give myself a fresh start with blogging. KayKayBray.com will focus on being a conscious consumer. You’ll still find topics on fashion trends, brands, travel guides and more… but it will all focus on slow fashion. You’ll find guides on updating old outfits, brands with a lower carbon footprint, buying quality over quantity, brands that give back, and the best options for Mother Earth.

I’m not an expert, and I intend to share any mistakes I make as I figure this all out! Feel free to send me messages or leave comments with your own lessons/suggestions!
